Dear Contingent Member,

Today, I attended a Head of Contingent meeting for the 16th World Scout Moot (ALT: Today, I received correspondence from the 16th World Scout Moot Planning Team).

During this meeting, the implications of the global pandemic on the planning and delivery of the event were discussed and it was clear that COVID-19 has had a major impact on the Moot Planning Team’s ability to ensure a safe and diverse world-class event.

Many challenges have been faced by the Planning Team over the last number of months as they have worked to create solutions to the many problems faced by large-scale events in a world where COVID is still very much felt across the globe.

For these reasons Scouting Ireland formally informed WOSM on 15 July 2021 that it cannot continue to support the hosting of the 16th World Scout Moot in 2022 and inquired about the potential further postponement of the event. The World Scout Committee considered the decision and inquiry from Scouting Ireland and the challenges associated with further postponing the event beyond 2022, and while it regrets the impact on thousands of Rovers around the world, it made the decision to cancel the event.

I, and the Moot Team, want to thank you for your enthusiasm for the 16th World Scout Moot. We really wanted to facilitate an exceptional experience for you.

The Moot Team have a communications plan in place and will shortly be making the announcement on their social media channels at 4:30pm Irish time, we ask that until the Moot Team has had the opportunity to make this announcement that you do not post on your own social media. We wanted to ensure that all of our contingent members had the opportunity to hear this devastating news directly rather than the public announcement, where possible.

I understand that this is going to come as a huge shock & disappointment to you. I feel this too.
